LCPL SCHWARZ's Act of Heroism
Michael was on foot patrol in Al Ramadi, Iraq on 11/27/06. He was called to the other side of a mosque by his superior officer to aid two Iraqi Policemen that were wounded by insurgents. Michael was point man and as that he and his fire team were on their way and while he was running up the street to the wounded policemen he was shot in the shoulder and died almost instantly due to a severed artery. A fierce fire fight was going on and they were outnumbered so back up had to be called.....
My Hero
Michael is a hero to me because he stood up and fought for what he thought was right, even though he knew it might cost him and his family a great sacrifice. He knew the dangers of going to war and that didn't sway him at all. He held fast and true to the Marine Corps. He had wanted to be a Marine since a young child. He was always wearing camo clothing, combat boots, even wore them to his high school graduation, even after I told him not too LOL...After 9/11 his resolve was even greater to enlist and go fight for his fellow american's who perished on that dreaded day...Unfortunately, he did pay the ultimate price. I will honor and respect and love him until we meet up in heaven some day when it is my time.
