PFC Dennis's Act of Heroism
Jacob joined the army in September 11, 2006. He had basic training in Ft Benning, Ga. He served at Ft Lewis, WA where he met his wife, Allysha. They married 6 months prior to his deployment.
Due to some medical issues and a surgery, Jacob did not deploy with his men until 6 months into their deployment. He had the opportunity to skip his deployment as well as to come home early after being deployed. He told his commanding officers, "Those are my brothers and I I WILL support them and serve with them."
Jacob was serving in FOB Lane in Afganistan. He had been deployed since January 2010. June 30, 2010 (18 days before he was to return home) he was involved in a weapons system accident which caused a severe brain injury. He was taken from the hospital in Afganistan to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. With his wife, parents, grandmother and brother by his side, he was pronounced dead. Jacob chose to be an organ donor and was able to help 5 individuals through the donation of his organ.
My Hero
"Jacob was a front line guy," his brother Sam told the local news. Jacob wanted to be in the military. He chose to serve his country, knowing at the time he joined the military, the country was at war. He knew he would be deployed and would be fighting for what he believed from day 1. Jacob loved what he did as a mortar man. His captain told the family Jacob worked hard to be the best and he WAS the best, "That's why I choose him to serve at FOB Lane." Jacob had a passion for life, a passion for people, a passion to serve and most of all, a passion for God. We know he is with God now.
"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends." John 15:3
