Captain USMC Frank's Act of Heroism

My son was KIA in Baiji Iraq on Nov. 25, 2008. His unit was escorting a humanitarian mission to distribute blankets and food to an obscure Iraqi village north of Mosul. The mission came under fire as it had been an ambush set-up. My son and another officer were killed, and 4 other American soldiers were severely wounded. He was KIA two days before Thanksgiving trying to help bring food and blankets to a starving poor Iraqi village. He was on his third deployment to Iraq. His nickname in the Corps was "WAR" which was short for Warren and
warrior. He exemplified a true American Hero and Poet Warrior. Strong but compassionate.
He had hundreds of his Marine brothers all over the world attend his funeral services in Arlington National Cemetery. Many were the men he had trained and helped along....an officer at the funeral said he had never attended a service where there were so many enlisted soldiers who came to an officers' services. It was a tribute to the man and leader he was.

My Hero

My son has always been "my hero" for his strength, his character, his love of life, his wonderful humor, and his big huge heart . He loved children and family above all, and his lifelong friends were very important in his life. His best friend was someone he had met when he was three years old and they remained very close friends up until the day he was killed. He loved life and had many many firends who he had shared many adventures with growing up,high school, college and then in the Corps. He touched so many people lives in such a good way , he is so dearly loved and missed beyond words. I am so proud to have been his mother and to have had my beautiful and amazing son for 26 years.
